Mark Turner's Award-Winning Design Stands Out in the Pet Food Industry

Turner's design for Vonziu Elite Puppy's packaging is a testament to his creativity and technical prowess. The design was inspired by Vonziu's history of breeding championship dogs and their commitment to producing quality feeds. The wolf, a symbol of strength and nobility, is the central figure of the design. Its eyes, which are color-coded to differentiate each variety of feed, are iridescent and penetrating, symbolizing the premium quality of the product.

What sets this design apart from others in the market is its simplicity and sophistication. Turner was tasked to create a design that would not only stand out among a vast variety of pet food brands but also have a hypnotic indulgent appeal. The result is a clean, yet sophisticated design that captures the attention of consumers and reflects the premium quality of Vonziu's feeds.

The realization of the design required innovative printing techniques. By using different strengths of white tints on the metalised PET, Turner was able to create a luster effect that enhanced the dramatic wolf image, giving it an almost 3D lenticular movement. The eyes of the wolf, which were printed directly on the silver metalised film, shimmer with an iridescent effect, making them appear alive.

The design was printed on a 3-ply laminated film, quad-seal construction bag that measures 375mm x 110mm x 760mm. The bag was reverse printed via rotogravure, seven colors onto PET 12 micro film, with an outer facing, anti-slip coating. This not only ensures the freshness of the dog food but also adds to the premium feel of the product.

The design process, which took place in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, UK, lasted about nine months from brief to final print and delivery. It involved extensive worldwide research on pet food packaging trends and the search for a specialist printer who could realize Turner's vision. The result is a design that is not only unique and premium but also a testament to Turner's commitment to pushing the boundaries of design.
